Lip Filler Injections
Are you looking to achieve fuller, more well-defined lips to enhance your smile? At Bloor Dental Clinic, we offer non-surgical lip enhancement, performed by our trained professional team, to give you the balanced, plumped and beautiful lips that you desire.
What are Lip Fillers?
Lip fillers are injections that add more volume to your lips. Our office uses Juvederm, which is a colourless, hyaluronic acid gel. Hyaluronic acid is a natural sugar molecule found throughout the body. It is used in many skincare products and cosmetic procedures due to its ability to attract and retain moisture, acting like a sponge to keep tissues plump and hydrated.
Why You May Consider Lip Filler Injections
Getting lip fillers is a personal decision, and it can be empowering, helping you feel more confident in your appearance. There are many reasons why you may want to increase the size of your lips, including:
- Aging: As you age, your body produces less hyaluronic acid, which may result in smaller or thinner lips.
- Correcting the shape of your lips: Your lips have always been thin and disappear when you smile, or you may feel that they are asymmetrical or unbalanced.
- Boosting confidence: You are self-conscious about how your lips look and wish to boost your self-esteem.
Benefits of Lip Filler Injections
- Hyaluronic acid-based cosmetic injections have been proven safe and effective and are approved by Health Canada. There is a low risk of complications and/or side effects.
- You will see instant improvement in your lips. The resulting look is often soft and natural.
- Quick and easy procedure (usually less than 20 minutes).
How are Lip Filler Injections Performed?
Before your treatment, our dental team will schedule an assessment appointment to determine the condition of your lips, whether lip fillers are right for you, and your desired results. On the day of your treatment, our dentist will use a topical numbing cream to make the treatment as comfortable as possible. If required, we can also provide a nerve-block injection to numb your lips.
Our dentist will then use a thin needle to inject lip filler into any or all parts of your lips, including the edges of your lips, the curve in the center of your upper lip (Cupid's bow), and the corners of your mouth. You will not feel any pain, but you may feel a pinching sensation, and your eyes may water. On average, our dentist will insert 1 millilitre (mL) of lip filler into your lips, which is about one-fifth of a teaspoon. The needle will not go deeper than 2.5 millimetres (mm) into your skin. Our dentist may apply an ice pack to your lips throughout the procedure to minimize swelling and bruising.
Your lips may be swollen, sensitive, and bruised after the procedure. Swelling usually goes away after 24 to 48 hours.
How Long Do Lip Fillers Last?
Lip fillers are not permanent since hyaluronic acid is broken down and absorbed by the body over time, depending on the metabolism of each patient and the amount of filler that is used. A retreatment session is typically recommended every 6 to 9 months to maintain results.
